The Brandenburg gate

This gate - famous for political appearances was closed as a crossing point when the wall was in place. More interesting was that it was the site of a German revolution in 1849. (The French Revolution was 1789-1799). It was not until 1871 that Berlin became the capital of the German Empire.
The day we visited there was a televised sports competition taking place.
